Erik ReeL painting
Erik ReeL, 1869 Incorrigible, acrylic on panel 32 x 24″

Incorrigible was first exhibited in the Epiphany: Erik ReeL + Diane Silver exhibition at the Porch Gallery in Ojai, California in July and August 2017.  It also got the fastest time to 100 likes on Instagram up to that time the day it was posted with a high number of those hits coming from Asia and Western Europe. Incorrigible is a  classic example of ReeL’s “high protolinguistic style” of works on panel and paper, a style often showing subtleties and techniques that are significantly different than those used on the larger canvases.  In spite of its popularity on the internet in digital reproduction, this style is actually difficult to reproduce accurately, or at least so that the full range of the cognitive processing involved is experienced fully, a fact that is only completely realized when seen live allowing the intimacy of the work to be more deeply felt.
